Packaging & Design
The MEDIHEAL Madecassoside Blemish Pad comes with 100 pads in a sturdy, square blue tub. It stands about 8cm tall and 9.5cm wide. The pads themselves are generously sized at 8.2cm, allowing you to cover a large area in one go.
A major plus is the built-in tweezers. They snap neatly into the underside of the lid, preventing them from getting lost or submerged in essence for a more hygienic, mess-free routine. The tweezers feel slightly stiff at first, but they loosen up with repeated use.

Switching to a refill is extremely easy. The flip-top lid and inner tub are designed to be swapped out in seconds. Expiration dates are printed on the bottom of both the box and the refill unit. The refill tubs are also recyclable. Simply peel off the seal and dispose of them accordingly.
While the refill system itself is eco-conscious, the outer cardboard box is a bit of a letdown. It doesn’t use FSC-certified paper or soy ink. For a brand that emphasizes sustainability through refills, this feels like a missed opportunity.
Texture
Instead of fluffy cotton, these pads are made from a thin, woven gauze. While the material holds essence well and feels relatively soft, the gauze weave is clearly noticeable on the skin.
If used as a wiping pad, the texture may feel slightly abrasive. For the best experience, these work better as a mini mask rather than for swiping.

The essence appears cloudy and milky at first glance, but the consistency itself is clear, watery, and very lightweight. There is just enough liquid to keep the pads fully saturated. On the skin, it leaves a clean, bouncy finish without greasiness.
The scent is arguably the most polarizing feature. It has a strong, medicinal herbal aroma with a sharp camphoraceous note that lingers for some time after application. If you are sensitive to strong scents or prefer fragrance-free skincare, this could be a sensory dealbreaker.

The MEDIHEAL Madecassoside Blemish Pad is formulated around a strong Cica–Niacinamide synergy. It is well-suited for calming redness caused by external irritants, supporting a compromised skin barrier, and brightening overall skin tone. The formula prioritizes water-based hydration rather than oil, making it ideal for lightweight soothing care.
It contains multiple active Centella compounds, including Madecassoside, Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid, and Asiatic Acid, at concentrations that support skin regeneration and provide notable anti-inflammatory benefits. In short, this “Cica pad” is especially beneficial for sensitive or acne-prone skin.
With Niacinamide included, it helps address post-acne marks and uneven tone. Given its MFDS functional brightening certification, the Niacinamide concentration is likely between 2–5%, which is considered the optimal range for visible results.
Additional calming support comes from Dipropylene Glycol for hydration, Licorice Root extract for anti-inflammatory relief, and Allantoin to help smooth skin texture.
Although the product is dermatologically tested for sensitivity, it does contain essential oils such as Juniper Berry, Mugwort, and Rosemary. These contribute antibacterial properties and scent, but those with ultra-sensitive skin or fragrance sensitivities should perform a patch test before use.
Performance & User Experience
MEDIHEAL is pretty much the king of toner pads in Korea, with over 30 million units sold. Among their lineup, the Madecassoside (the blue one) is the clear favorite for many. It’s designed to do four things: fade blemish marks, soothe irritation, smooth skin texture, and fix your moisture barrier.
Let’s manage expectations: if you’re looking for a product to erase deep acne scars on its own, this isn’t it. While it’s excellent for improving overall tone, it truly shines as a ‘team player’ in a larger routine. When paired with a dedicated brightening serum, you’ll see results much faster than using these pads alone.
Where this pad excels is calming inflamed breakouts, post-extraction redness, and skin heat. Adhesion is excellent, allowing you to move around or do light tasks without it slipping. However, because the gauze is thin, it tends to dry out and fall off if you try to blow-dry your hair while wearing it.
Hydration-wise, it’s far more effective than simply applying toner with a cotton pad. For oily skin types, this can be sufficient as the sole moisturizing step in summer. It absorbs well, leaving a slight “bouncy” tackiness rather than residue.
I especially love using these as a 5-minute prep mask in the morning to smooth the skin and help makeup apply more evenly. However, because of that gauze weave, you can definitely feel the texture. If you have sensitive skin, I’d suggest leaving it on as a mask rather than swiping it across your face like a traditional toner pad.
Overall, this is a dependable daily staple. It’s gentle enough for everyday use, and the price-to-performance ratio is hard to beat. Since incorporating these into my routine, I’ve noticed my breakouts are smaller and happen far less often.
While it won’t provide a clear, immediate fix for hyperpigmentation, it remains an excellent foundation for maintaining calm, hydrated skin as the first step in your routine.
Value for Money
The MEDIHEAL Madecassoside Blemish Pad offers excellent value, especially for those looking to streamline their routine. Once you’ve purchased the original tub, you can simply buy refills at a lower price. A great hidden perk is that the refill tubs are interchangeable across different Mediheal lines, giving you the flexibility to swap “versions” without buying a new case.
Think of this as a 3-in-1 product. Since it’s pre-soaked, there’s no need to buy separate toner and cotton pads. Plus, at 8.2cm, these gauze pads are significantly larger than your average cotton round. Because they work so well as a targeted mini-mask, they can easily replace your daily sheet masks for soothing.
Who Is It For?
- Users who prefer “masking” over wiping
- Those managing occasional breakouts and redness
- Anyone seeking a reliable, budget-friendly staple for daily hydration
Verdict: Mediheal Madecassoside Blemish Pad
Ultimately, the MEDIHEAL Madecassoside Blemish Pad earns its place through consistency rather than a “wow” factor. It is a dependable daily staple that effectively calms the skin and manages redness.
While it won’t deliver a dramatic fix for post-acne pigmentation, its ability to keep skin stable and hydrated is exactly why it’s a repeat purchase for so many. The Cica actually works, the refill system is smart, and at this price point, it’s hard to argue against.
That said, it won’t suit everyone. If you are sensitive to medicinal scents or prefer a plush, cloud-like cotton texture, the herbal aroma and gauze weave might be a hurdle. It isn’t a particularly exciting or “sexy” product, but you’ll likely reach for it every morning because it does its job well and just works.
